Dragonfruit germination

Image
Hi guys! I have 15 yellow dragonfruit seeds in a glass, like on the photo. Most of them sunk to the bottom, which means they're viable, but can they be on the bottom of the glass in deep water, or do they need to be able to touch the air to breathe? I don't have access to any more seeds, so I'd like if these ones survived. You can see how deep they are on the pic.https://ift.tt/WkyFmDe

I’ve came upon a surplus of bare root strawberries and pine berries.

Image
I’ve never dealt with bare root anything, i’ve had strawberry plugs prior years. I’ve combed the internet and it says i should plant them as soon as possible. i’m in 6a, and the box they came in says hardy down to 4-8. So i just wanted to know should i actually plant them this soon, our ground is thawed and our highs are usually mid 50 and lows of 35 but where i’m at i get random lake affect snow some days. I’ve never had bare root plants before and i really don’t want to kill all 60 of them. Will they be okay if i plant them outside now, any other tips would be greatly appreciated !

Got new strawberries and they came with a bunch of tenants. What are these? They were on the soil and leaves.

Liquid vs Granular Fertiliser

Sorry I'm new to this but is there any point using both or just use one? Example: using granular for start of growing season or every 6-8 weeks and using liquid every few weeks?

Need advice - planting flower seeds in a high weed pressure garden plot.

Image
Hi! I’m taking on a plot in a local community garden, to grow cut flowers, that has been vacant for a long time and is covered in weeds. The weed pressure is bonkers there. I’m hoping to get access to the plot very soon so that I can tarp the area but the reality is that I may not have enough time before my last frost to let it sit long enough. I will be using woven landscape fabric with holes burned in for each plant and will certainly weed around all my plugs. But, I’m worried about the seeds that I’m going to direct sow. My concern is that I will struggle to tell the difference between my germinating seed and the germinating weeds that will likely pop up in the fabric hole. My idea is to dig out a bit of the existing soil in each hole, refill with purchased garden soil and plant my seed in that to eliminate weed seed lurking directly around my planted seeds. That way, hopefully, I can tell what is what when the weeds ultimately start growing around my established seedlings. Is plai

Money Tree is struggling

Image
suspect it’s because of my drafty house, but my always thriving money tree is shedding leaves like crazy this winter. I do see a lot of new growth, but I’m concerned about all the loss.I did add fresh soil as it had been quite some time and fed it with the miracle gro plant food I’ve always used for it.I’m wondering if I should be moving it to a warmer part of the house for the winter? I know plants don’t like to be moved around too much.I’ve also recently covered it with a large, clear garbage bag along with a cup of water underneath to create a greenhouse effect and deflect the draft. The plant carries a lot of sentimental value so I’m trying my hardest to keep her happy and thriving.

Seed identification? It also came from a conifer ,that’s for sure

I bought a bag of Acidantheras at Costco today. Join me on my slow descent into madness.

So, I kill pretty much everything I try to grow. But, as per tradition, I've once again got it into my head that despite my lengthy track record of being incapable of keeping even my weeds alive, I'm going to be a plant gay this year and start a memorial garden for my mother. So obviously, I got a bag of persnickity bulbs to grow. Excellent start. What could possibly go wrong. Did I do much more than a cursory google before buying the poor bulbs? Don't be absurd, I'm not that responsible. But it has been slow at work tonight so I've been excitedly researching. All I currently know is as follows:1) In zone 6 (that's me), they're basically annuals but maybe not if they're in pots? TBD2) Drainage like their tiny little lives depend on it!3) Sun??? But not hot? But also not cold? No actual temperatures given because of course. But NOT SHADE!! Except maybe a little shade.4) Don't let them dry out. ⚠️¡DON'T LET THEM GET TOO WET!⚠️5) When the winter co

DIY in-ground composting?

Image
I’ve recently found out about the Verve in-ground compost bins and it seems like a perfect solution - I have one raised bed, a tiny lawn, a full flower bed and everything else is in pots so there isn’t a huge amount of space. I don’t think I would maintain a regular composter, so thought an in-ground one in the raised bed would be ideal. The problem being the Verve one, which is the smallest I’ve seen, is 35cm tall and my raised bed is only 27cm deep (it’s a repurposed lined sandpit inherited from a previous owner, we’ve done what we can)Would these bins from Amazon serve the same purpose if I was able to drill/melt holes into them? How possible would that be to do? TIA

Is it dangerous to plant an Oleander plant ?

Image
I just bought one but there are plenty of warnings online as well as on the label saying that this plant can be extremely toxic to people and animals, and while i don't plan on eating it or touching it with bare hands, i do have cats to worry about.I initially really wanted to plant it in the ground but instead i think to be safe i might just have to keep it living in a pot forever, what do you guys think?

Can moisture retentive soil be an issue with outdoor potted plants?

Image
So i'm upsizing the plastic nursery pot of a new oleander tree however i noticed after watering that it takes a while for the water to drain through and the soil seems pretty dense (almost muddy) so i'm a little worried that down the track this might cause issues with root rot.I used 2 parts potting mix, 1 part coco coir, 1 part perlite and a handful of compost, i figured since this plant will be in a full 8hr+ sunlight position this might not be an issue but i'm used to taking care of houseplants where drainage is absolutely crucial and i'm pretty new to outdoor gardening. Can anyone please help? Can issues with moist soil be solved by just watering less frequently?

Garden decor and plant recommendations

Image
To preface, Zone 3b/4aI started a goth garden last year, a garden that is unequivocally me.I preordered a bunch of black/dark brown/deep purple plants last year and I am looking to expand the garden this year. I am mostly looking for perennials as it seems annuals are a bit easier to find.Right now, I for sure have perennial grass, and I pulled out my oxalis because I didn’t like how much it spread. I unfortunately can’t find my list of other perennials. I did have coleus, millet, and petunias as fillers. The current space is probably 90” long, and maybe about 18” wide, so I can’t have something in there that gets massive, but I do plan on extending it some more this year as we were under time constraints last year with our wedding, and the constant finding of more… and more… and more large rocks. The extension would effectively double the length. The existing garden is about 40/60 sun/shade, the the extension would be full sun. Also, has anyone had experience trying to source high quali
