Mushrooms & plant growth

Image
I’ve read mushrooms support plant growth and vice versa. Has anyone ever planted mushrooms in their garden beds? Is this an insane idea ? I just think they’re so cute 😅. If someone has what kind of mushrooms did you plant?

What is your favorite/most useful "accessory" or gear to use at home in the garden?

Image
I'm somewhat new to gardening (building raised beds now after having to tear down my old raised beds last year - planning to share that project once completed!)So, what's your favorite or most tool to use in the garden? Soil pH meter! Specific type of shears/ shovel/etc? Drip irrigation? Etc?

How do I rescue these cucumbers?

Image
Hi folks,I've moved my cucumber plants into the greenhouse when they outgrew their pots, and they've been trying to commit suicide ever since. They've started to droop and look like they're dying. I'm not sure what to do to help them. I've tried adding some fertilizer (earthworm poo), some long-term fertilizer (horn shavings), adding more water, nothing seems to help them. The weather hasn't been great, but I do have heating in the greenouse which turns on in case it drops below 1 degree. As far as I know the night temps haven't fallen below 3. The plants are in a raised bed, inside the greenhouse, the top soil layer is quite dry, but it's quite moist when you dig underneath. I don't think they're taking up much water. The other plants are happy in the same conditions, tomatoes are doing well, salads are doing well, but cucumbers look awful. Should I just give up and replace them with something else, or is there a way to rescue them? I can d

Has anyone have a good advice for me how to drag this giant brick into my garden?

Image
It's currently in a slope and that makes it heavier to move it upwards. We already tried to use a lever pull technique but it only got dragged further down. I dont want to break it into half, because i want to use the brick as a bench.https://ift.tt/KpPUarf

Does Anyone Here Grow Willows For Butterflies?

Image
I’m growing a bunch of cuttings and whips rooted and I’m just wondering how attracted butterflies are to them and what to expect. I know viceroy and mourning cloak really like them and red spotted purple and tiger swallowtail will use them but maybe not preferred.

Mint containment through vigilance?

Image
I have a mint plant flourishing in a corner of a large container flowerbed. If I watch it closely and snip off any runners that appear, could I keep it in one place? Or will it spread under the surface too?So far it has only attempted to spread through above soil runners which I diligently prune away.

Creeping thyme in a coastal garden?

Image
I have a big flowerbed that gets full sun and is really dry in the summer but also gets a lot of salty overspray since it's almost directly in front of the sea. I've already planted some resistant plants like nerium, loquat, euonymus etc, but ground covers really struggle. I considered sedum but I like creeping thyme more since it's bee friendly. Would it do well in a 9b coastal area?

Natural Pest Control HELP!

Image
I’m just curious if you all have any natural remedies for pest control other than harmful chemicals that have worked for you! I have a pollinator bed that’s coming along great and I’m already seeing aphids and tons of slugs. I want to save my plants from damage and infestation, but not harm the pollinators.I’ve heard that Castile soap mixed with vinegar works, along with regular dish soap with vinegar. Has this worked for you?Or if you have used pesticides/insecticides and found a relatively safe solution, what do you use?Pests that I have seen and want to manage: (Zone 8a, USA) Aphids, Spider Mites, Slugs, Japanese Beetles

Gardening for first time

Image
Hi everyone, I’ve never gardened before but moved into first house and we have a small garden with loads of pebbles and some space for flowers. What do you do with weeds that shoot up from the pebbles? There are so many- do you just bend down and pick them every few weeks, or are you meant to spray something to stop them from growing?
