When is it a good time to start growing Salsify in Zone 6B

Good Morning!!! I was wondering what the best time during the year is it to start salsify from seed for Zone 6B? It'll be in a grow bag as a opposed to soil if that makes a difference?I figure I have to accept that I have to wait till the spring to get anything good but if I'm wrong I'd love to learn some tips!
